David Lovell awarded UKEMS Fellowship

The UKEMS Committee is pleased to share that David Lovell was presented with the title of UKEMS Fellow at last month’s Annual Meeting at the University of York. The title recognises David’s exceptional contribution to the society and the field of environmental mutagenesis. David has long-standing links to UKEMS and previously received the prestigious Jim Parry Award in 2019.
David is Emeritus Reader in Medical Statistics at St George’s Medical School, and has a PhD from the Department of Human Genetics and Biometry at University College London. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in North Carolina, USA. David has since attained a series of impressive series of achievements within the environmental mutagenicity field: previously at the University of Surrey, David has also been an Associate Director at Pfizer, worked with Bibra Consulting and as a Geneticist at the MRC Laboratories in Carshalton, as well as a cytogeneticist at the University of Birmingham.

David has completed research programmes on genetics, statistics and quantitative risk assessment for the EU and UK Government Departments. His research interests include the use of mathematical and statistical methods together with genetic models in the understanding of toxicological mechanisms and risk assessment problems.
He was Vice Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), a member of the Independent Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC) for Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) database research, Chair of the UK Government’s Advisory Committee on Mutagenicity of Chemicals in Food, Consumer Products and the Environment (COM), a member of the Committees on Carcinogenicity (COC) and of the Board of the National Centre for the 3Rs. He is currently a member of the Committee on Toxicity (COT).
