The international scientific journal Mutagenesis is co-owned by UKEMS and Oxford University Press. It publishes research aimed at the identification, characterization and elucidation of the mechanisms of action of physical, chemical and biological agents capable of producing genetic change in living organisms and the study of the consequences of such changes.Mutagenesis Website
Supplementary Mutagenicity Tests: UKEMS Recommended Procedures.
Edited by David J. Kirkland and Margaret Fox. Cambridge University Press. 1993. ISBN 0 521 45073 X
This volume describes a complementary selection of tests to those described in the companion volume Basic Mutagenicity Tests (1990). These supplementary tests are used to assess risks of in vitro mutagenicity in those instances where the basic tests are inconclusive. As such, these tests have an important role in the assessment of the safety of new compounds, drugs and chemicals. The volume is therefore an essential source of reference and practical guidance for everyone involved in regulatory affairs, mutagenicity testing and the successful registration of new chemical products in the UK and the rest of Europe.
Basic Mutagenicity Tests: UKEMS Recommended Procedures
Edited by David J. Kirkland. Cambridge University Press. 1990. ISBN 0 521 39347 7
This volume provides a brief but important summary of the essential tests that need to be performed on all new compounds, whether they be new drugs, pesticides or food additives, before they can be registered for use in the United Kingdom. These basic tests for mutagenicity were originally drawn up by UKEMS in 1983. They have now been fully revised by expert working groups from academia and industry under the auspices of UKEMS and in collaboration with the UK Department of Health.
