UKEMS provides bursaries for undergraduate students conducting a placement project in an industrial or academic laboratory on a relevant topic, to attend the annual UKEMS conference and present their work.
At the time of submission, applicants must be registered as an undergraduate student and be conducting a research project on a relevant topic as part of a placement in a UK based laboratory. Students submitting applications must join UKEMS (Note: UKEMS student membership is free of charge) in order to be considered. Applications must be supported by the placement supervisor, who must be a current UKEMS member.
Applications must be made using the appropriate application form by letter, Fax or E-mail attachment to the local meeting organiser (and copied to the Treasurer), well in advance of the deadlines for registration and abstract submission and must include the abstract of a poster/verbal presentation to be given at the meeting.
Recipients are expected to provide a brief report (one or two paragraphs) summarising the highlights of the meeting they attended, for publication in the next UKEMS Newsletter or on the UKEMS website.
If UKEMS receives too many applications, the awards will be made on the basis of one per industrial/academic laboratory and/or on a first-come-first-served basis.
This bursary will automatically cover the full registration fee (inclusive of meals and attendance at the conference dinner) plus the cost of standard accommodation offered by the conference organisers.
